Australia legendary cricketer Michael Clarke backed struggling Virat Kohli after his dismal outing in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Former India captain who has a great record against Australia in the longest format of the game has failed to perform in five Test match series against Baggy Greens.
Kohli smashed an unbeaten century in the first Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The batting great failed to get the momentum after the first Test match as he just scored 190 runs in the five Test match series.
"If Virat Kohli retires from Test Cricket right now, there is only one team losing out, it's India - This guy can make a Double Hundred tomorrow. He is that good a player - He should play until he's had enough" Michael Clarke said in Beyond23 Cricket Podcast.
"If I was Captain of my team that Virat Kohli was in, even though I know he didn't make as many runs as he would have liked, I am fighting for him to stay in the team and play as long as he wants" added Clarke
Australia defeated India 3-1 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 and with that Pat Cummins & Co. sealed their spot for the World Test Championship (WTC) final which is scheduled to take place in England later this year.
After losing the Test series against Australia, the Men in Blue are currently focussing on the upcoming white ball series against England which is scheduled to start from January 22. England are scheduled to play a five-match T20I series followed by a three-match ODI series which will be the last assignment before Champions Trophy 2025. Kohli who has already announced retirement from T20Is will be seen in action in the ODI series against England.
