Jasprit Bumrah's recent injury update came as a huge blow for Team India and cricket fans alike right ahead of ODI series against England and the all-important Champions Trophy. As per a Times of India report, India's pace maestro Bumrah has been advised bed rest which has put his future course of action in jeopardy.
Jasprit Bumrah has been advised bed rest
Reportedly he has been told for a bed rest until the swelling on his back go away. Bumrah is coming from a tiring outing in Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia which was a five-match outing. He landed home last week and going by his current situation, it's certainly not a good news for Team India but a setback.
It has been learnt that Bumrah will be reporting to Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru soon.
"Bumrah could go to the CoE next week but right now there is no fixed date yet. He has been advised bed rest at home to help the muscles recover and the swelling to subside. Once that is done, future course of action will be ascertained," a source told Times of India.
"Bed rest doesn't sound good. I hope it's not a disc bulge or a muscle swelling which is of a higher grade. The approach has to be similar with him wrap him in cotton wool and preserve the talent like him," added the source.
Initial reports indicate that Jasprit Bumrah is experiencing back swelling and will not be rushed back into cricket. Given his history of back injuries, caution is paramount to prevent further complications.
The exact nature of the injury remains unclear, but a severe issue could significantly impact his recovery timeline. Former India strength and conditioning coach Ramji Srinivasan said that the recovery period will depend on the specific location of the swelling, whether it's in the muscle or on a disc.
"Swelling happens if there is a tear because of edema formation which depends on the grade of tear in the muscle. If it's a disc bulge or swelling then recovery also depends on grade, individual capacity, medical intervention and post medical rehab work," Srinivasan told TOI.
Bumrah was the Player of the series in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series against Australia as he ended up picking 32 wickets across five matches before being forced to leave the field midway through the Sydney Test due to back spasms.
With India gearing for three-match ODI series against England in a perfect dress rehearsal for Champions Trophy, Bumrah's injury report isn't encouraging and will only add to their bowling woes.
