The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah's tenure with the cricket board has ended as he has officially taken charge as the Chair of the International Cricket Council (ICC) on December 1, Sunday. Jay Shah succeeds Greg Barclay, who has held the position since November 2020.
Jay Shah started his cricketing journey in 2009 at the district and state level, where he quickly rose through the ranks of the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA). He was elected as the BCCI secretary in 2019, he became the youngest-ever secretary of the Indian Cricket Board. BCCI has introduced the Women's Premier League (WPL) under his tenure. He was the President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and as Chair of the ICC's Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee.
After taking over his new role the former BCCI secretary said that he will ensure the best resources and platforms for the cricketers around the world.

“This is an exciting time for the sport as we build up to the LA28 Olympic Games and strive to make cricket more inclusive and popular than ever before. We also stand at a critical juncture in terms of the coexistence of multiple formats and accelerating the growth of the women’s game. There is huge potential for the game of cricket globally, with so much opportunity to engage with existing and new fans, while ensuring the best resources and platforms for our cricketers around the world.
Jay Shah also thanked former ICC Chair Greg Barclay for his leadership from the past four years.

Earlier, there were rumours that Jay Shah might wait longer to get his position in ICC because of the ongoing Champions Trophy 2024-25 drama where BCCI clearly mentioned that team India will not travel to Pakistan for the marquee event next year.
Amid the Champions Trophy saga, there were rumours that Greg Barclay would leave his post after deciding a conclusion for the tournament.
