Shreyas Iyer is currently leading Mumbai in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024.

India's T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav set to join the Mumbai squad for the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024. The star T20I batter has missed the initial matches for citing personal reasons but now he will reportedly join his home team for their crucial match against Hyderabad.

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has already announced its 17-member squad for the ongoing tournament. Without SKY, he has now been added to the Shreyas Iyer-led side for the ongoing event. Earlier, Suryakumar Yadav played one game in the last leg of the Ranji Trophy against Maharashtra and scored seven runs in the first innings.

According to TOI, the star batter has been added to Mumbai's squad for the upcoming fixture on Tuesday, December 03. However, it is likely that the Indian skipper may play under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, who led Kolkata Knight Riders to an IPL title in the 2024 edition of the cash-rich tournament.

“He has informed us that he is willing to play the last T20 game and MCA has added his name. He will be flying on Monday,” a source in the MCA confirmed as quoted Indianexpress.

The report further added that Suryakumar Yadav is absolutely fine to play under Iyer's captaincy and is ready to bat at any position that the team management feels is suitable for him.

On the other hand, The star India batter recently led team India in four T20I series against South Africa where the Men in blue registered 3-1 series victory against the Proteas. He has scored 26 runs across three innings in his last T20I series where he sacrificed his batting position for young Tilak Varma.
