Bangladesh veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan who recently missed his spot from the Champions Trophy 2025 squad now in more trouble as a Dhaka court issued an arrest warrant against him, in connection with a dishonoured cheque case involving IFIC Bank.
Cricbuzz reported that Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ziadur Rahman issued the order on Sunday.
On December 15, Shakib was named in the cheque fraud case. Subsequently, on December 18, the court ordered him to appear before it on January 19 after an initial hearing.
IFIC Bank's Relationship Officer, Shahibur Rahman, filed the case on behalf of the bank, accusing Shakib and three others of failing to honor a commitment to transfer BDT 4,14,57,000 (approximately 41.4 million Tk) via two separate cheques.
The ongoing case also includes Shakib's company, Al Hasan Agro Farm Ltd., its Managing Director Gazi Shahagir Hossein, and directors Emdadul Haque and Malaikar Begum. His company took funds from IFIC Bank's Banani branch at various times. They gave the cheques to repay part of the loans but were bounced due to insufficient funds, according to the case statement.
Shakib is currently in the USA along with his family and he will unlikely to return to Bangladesh anytime soon. The star all-rounder has already announced retirement from T20Is and Tests. The veteran missed his spot in Bangladesh's Champions Trophy squad after getting suspended from bowling in competitions under the jurisdiction of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) based on the outcome of an independent re-assessment conducted at Sri Ramachandra Centre for Sports Science in Chennai, India last month.
