Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team is competing against Najmul Hossain Shanto's Bangladesh in match 2 of the ongoing edition of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 which is being played at Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai, on February 20 (Thursday). The Men in Blue side was asked to bowl after the Shanto elected to bat first. The Men in Blue got off to a stunning start as Mohammed Shami struck in the very first over of the match.
Shami makes a roaring start
Mohammed Shami who recently made his return to International cricket with the England series after a layoff of more than a year, had lots of responsibility on his shoulders as Jasprit Bumrah was ruled of the tournament. He did not produce any extraordinary performance in the white-ball clashes against England but his experience alone was enough for India to bank on it.
The premium pacer dismissed Bangladesh's opener Soumya Sarkar on the final ball of the first over and provided India with an early breakthrough. This allowed Harshit Rana to bowl confidently and strike in his first over as well as he dismissed captain Shanto on a two-ball duck in the second over. Bangladesh were down to 2/2 by the second over.
Rohit Sharma was not unhappy after losing the toss. He wanted to bowl first, and the decision seems to have been right. The Indian team is off to a spectacular start against Bangladesh.
"I would have fielded first. We have played a few years back here so we felt ball comes on better under lights. All looking good. Everyone is fit and fine to go. Let's hope we start well. There is no looking back, every game becomes very important in this tournament. Only Varun misses out from the last ODI we played, Jadeja comes back and Arshdeep misses and Shami comes back," said Rohit Sharma at toss.
This is the second match of Group A, in the first match New Zealand defeated Pakistan by 60 runs. So this match is crucial for both sides to gain a good start in the marquee event.
