India has had a fantastic run in the 2025 Champions Trophy, winning every game to advance to the final, which will take place at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday, March 9, against New Zealand. Shreyas Iyer has been one of India's standout performers in the mega tournament. He has consistently scored large runs since entering the batting order at number four. In four games, he has amassed 195 runs at an average of 48.75, including two half-centuries and four consecutive 40-run scores. The BCCI is now scheduled to award him.

BCCI to reward Iyer

Following his exclusion from the list in the previous term due to disciplinary issues, Shreyas Iyer is expected to reclaim his BCCI central contract, according to a report by The Times of India. Ishan Kishan has not played any international cricket since losing his central contract last term.

The player list is usually released by BCCI prior to the start of the IPL. After a terrible run in Test cricket in recent months, the board wanted to watch how India performed in the Champions Trophy 2025, therefore they have not yet made the list public.

The BCCI now offers four players A+ central contracts: Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli. The Times of India report states that the board plans to review these contracts, particularly in light of the poor performance in Test cricket and the retirement of Jadeja, Rohit, and Kohli from T20I cricket.

The BCCI typically grants the contracts based on how well each player performs for Team India throughout the season; if India wins the Champions Trophy in 2025, they may all keep their A+ contracts. Axar Patel, KL Rahul, and Rishabh Pant might also be elevated to the Grade A category after the BCCI releases the central contract list for the next season.
