During Sunday's Champions Trophy match between India and New Zealand, senior Indian cricketer Virat Kohli's amusing on-field antics went viral. Even though there were a few nerve-wracking moments in India's Champions Trophy final group-stage encounter, Kohli, who is nearly always a live-wire on the field, kept the atmosphere light. India was having some trouble as Kane Williamson was leading the Kiwis' innings as they defended 249 runs against Mitchell Santner's New Zealand. Kohli's amusing on-field antics kept the fielding unit in high spirits.
Shreyas Iyer, who had fielded inside the 30-yard circle but had failed to grasp the ball, made jokes with the senior hitter. As he attempted to catch the ball close to his feet while fielding at cover, Shreyas Iyer lost sight of it. He whirled about, not being able to find the ball right away. Iyer lost his equilibrium and had to struggle to identify it fast, but luckily it had not passed him. Virat Kohli went up to Iyer in the next over and they had a lighthearted conversation. Fans were inconsolable when Kohli seemed to mock Iyer's fielding error by mimicking his spin.
Kohli touches Axar's feet
Axar Patel's dismissal of Kane Williamson in the game's 41st over gave India complete control of the match. On a ground that was very hard to bat on, New Zealand looked unlikely to change the flow when Williamson lost his wicket at 81. In between overs, Kohli rushed to Axar, touched his feet, and expressed gratitude to the spinner for helping India win their most recent Champions Trophy group-stage match.
Virat hits the 'SUI'
While positioned at short cover, Kohli was a live-wire on the field, cutting off singles. As India got closer to winning, the former captain was at his most animated, mingling with the supporters. In the last minutes of the match, Kohli fielded at the boundary line and struck footballer Cristiano Ronaldo's well-known SIU celebration in Dubai. When Kohli pulled off his shenanigans, the crowd there erupted in cheers.
With three victories from three games, India concluded their Champions Trophy group stage. India will now play Australia in the tournament's semi-finals in Dubai.
