Two members of India's women cricket team – Pooja Vastrakar and Sabbhineni Meghana – have tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of the Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022. The second member of the team tested positive for the virus on July 26 ahead of India's series opener against Australia on July 29.
Along with the team, three standbys were named as well who would travel with the team. The standbys may get a chance to feature in the squad if the players don’t recover in time.
In Meghana's absence, Jemimah Rodrigues can be promoted up the order. However, the team management will find it tough to replace the fast-bowling all-rounder Vastrakar in the side.
As per protocol, both players can join the team once they have tested negative for the virus.
Indi are placed in Group A. After July 29 clash against Australia, India will take on arch-rivals Pakistan on July 31 followed by Barbados on August 3.
