India D top-order batter Ricky Bhui scored a century in the run chase but could not avoid a defeat to India A on Day 4 of the Duleep Trophy 2024 second round match. Tanush Kotian's four-fer and Shams Mulani's three wickets helped Mayank Agarwal-led India A bowl out Shreyas Iyer's India B for 301 and win the match by 186 runs.
Starting the day at an overnight score of 62/1, opener Yash Dubey got run out in a bizarre fashion. Dubey was run out by Mulani on his follow-through. Bhui's shot took a deflection off non-striker's bat and Mulani caught him short of the crease. Mulani then bowled an excellent delivery from around the wicket to beat Devdutt Padikkal and beat his bat on the drive to hit the stumps.
Bhui and skipper Iyer shared a 53-run partnership where the latter scored 41 runs from 55 balls including eight fours. Iyer missed the length and got bowled by Mulani. Dismissed cheaply in the first innings, wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson adopted the attacking approach. They shared a 62-run stand for the fifth wicket.
Samson was dismissed by Mulani as well. His 45-ball 40 was laced with three fours and three sixes. Kotian joined the party and dismissed Saransh Jain. Bhui's ressistance was ended by Kotian as well. He scored 113 runs from 195 balls including 14 fours and three sixes. Saurabh Kumar (22) and Harshit Rana (24) got starts but fell Kotian as well. Riyan Parag dismissed Vidwath Kaverappa for a three-ball duck to wrap up the innings.
Another defeat for India D
This was India D’s second defeat on the trot. They are at the bottom of the points table. Their next game will be against India B starting September 19.
