19-year-old Musheer Khan surpasses Sachin Tendulkar on this list with 181-run knock during record-breaking partnership on Duleep Trophy debut

Teenager Musheer Khan made a massive impact on his Duleep Trophy debut for India B against India A at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on September 6. Musheer on Day 2 registered a score of 181, the third-highest by a teenager on Duleep Trophy debut. 
 

The 19-year-old surpassed legendary Sachin Tendulkar on the list to occupy the third spot. Tendulkar had scored 159 runs on his Duleep Trophy debut 33 years ago. 
 

India's Under-19 World Cup 2022-winning captain Yash Dhull is second on the list with a 193-run knock. The top spot is occupied by Baba Aparajith who scored 212 on his debut in the first-class tournament.

On Day 1, Musheer held on to one end while wickets fell on the other. As India B suffered a batting collapse, they were reduced to 94/7 in 43.5 overs. It seemed like Musheer will run out of partners but Navdeep Saini played the perfect supporting role.

At the end of Day 1’s play, India B were 220/7. Starting from an overnight score of 105, Musheer reached his 150 from 325 balls. After the lunch break, Musheer hit a six before losing his wicket to Kuldeep Yadav. His 181-run knock from 373 balls was laced with 16 fours and five sixes.

Massive partnership record broken 

Musheer and Saini shared a 205-run partnership for the eighth wicket. This is the highest eighth-wicket partnership in Duleep Trophy history. The previous record belonged to Abhishek Nayar and Ramesh Powar who shared a 197-run partnership in Rajkot for West Zone against North Zone. 
 

Saini registered his highest first-class score. The 31-year-old scored 56 runs from 144 balls including eight fours and a six. Saini was the last to fall. Akash Deep dismissed him in the 116th over. Musheer and Saini’s fightback helped India B post 321 on the board after India A skipper Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to bowl first.
