IND vs ENG: Ben Stokes fails to find answers to 'Jaisball' as Yashasvi hits another ton after England suffer batting collapse

Later in the day, Yashasvi Jaiswal rubbed salts on England’s wounds with another ton to put India in control in the Rajkot Test.
 

Duckett hits 150

Starting the day at 207/2, Joe Root fell early trying to play a reverse-lap shot against Jasprit Bumrah. He got caught by Jaiswal at the second slip. He scored 18 runs from 31 balls. In the next over, Jonny Bairstow got out lbw for a four-ball duck by Kuldeep Yadav. A few overs later, Duckett was dropped off Kuldeep's bowling by Rohit. On the next ball, he got to his 150 from 139 balls. Kuldeep did not Duckett get away and got his wicket late in the second session. His 153-run knock from 151 balls included 23 fours and two sixes. At lunch break, England were 290/5.
 

England suffer batting collapse

England lost the wicket of skipper Ben Stokes early in the second session. Stokes went for a slog-sweep but was caught by Jasprit Bumrah. He scored 41 runs from 89 balls. Stokes became Jadeja’s 200th Test wicket at home. The left-arm spinner became the fifth to achieve the feat. On the next ball of the over bowled by Siraj, Ben Foakes chipped it to mid-on fielder Rohit. The wicketkeeper-batter scored 13 runs from 37 balls. 

Siraj continued to trouble the batters. Rehan Ahmed got bowled by a fuller delivery that tailed back into the off-stump. In the next over, Jadeja struck again to dismiss Tom Hartley who got stumped trying to play a reckless shot. He became Dhruv Jurel's first stumping in international cricket. England's collapse continued as James Anderson got bowled by Siraj in the next over. From 299/5, England got bowled out for 319, losing five wickets for just 20 runs as India got a 126-run lead despite opener Ben Duckett’s 153-run knock. 
 

Rohit departs early

Indian opener Rohit Sharma was clear in his approach against the new ball. He hit Anderson for two consecutive fours in the first over. Meanwhile, Jaiswal did not want to lose his wicket early and adopted a defensive approach. Root in his sixth over with the new ball trapped Rohit in front of the stumps as he attempted the sweep shot. He scored 19 runs from 28 balls. At tea break, India were 44/1.

‘Jaisball’ in Rajkot

In the last session, Jaiswal accelerated after a cautious start. He targetted Anderson and hit him for a six and two fours. He reached his half-century with a six off Hartley. He followed it up with another six. He toyed with spinners and hit Rehan and Root for one six each. Jaiswal reached his century from 122 balls. Shubman Gill decided to attack too and hit Root for a maximum. Gill reached his fifty with a six off Mark Wood.

Jaiswal retires, Patidar disappoints again

Towards the end of the day’s play, Jaiswal struggled with a back spasm. After a couple of visits from the physio, he returned to the dressing room retired hurt. His 104 from 133 balls featured nine fours and five sixes. Rajat Patidar walked out to bat and once again failed to justify his place in the side. He lobbed an easy catch to mid-wicket fielder Hartley and departed for a 10-ball duck. Kuldeep walked out to bat as nighwatchman again. Gill was cautious and did not attack as India had 196/2 on the board at the end of the day with a lead of 322 runs. Gill remained unbeaten for 63 off 120 balls.
