Kohli pulled out of Test series against England
Initially, Kohli had pulled out of the first two Test of the series due to “personal reasons” after talking to skipper Rohit Sharma and the team management. Kohli was expected to rejoin the squad for the remaining three Tests but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) backed his decision to take some time off. BCCI secretary Jay Shah also backed Kohli's decision saying, “If somebody is asking for a personal leave in 15 years, then it is his right to ask for it. Virat is not the kind of player who would ask for leave without any reason. We must back and trust our players.”
AB de Villiers' slipped the beans, later apologised
Earlier this month, Kohli's close friend and former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) teammate AB de Villiers confirmed the rumours on his YouTube channel. Later, he cut that part out of the video and apologised for spreading misinformation.
"Family comes first and then Cricket. I had made a big mistake on my YouTube channel. That information was wrong and not true at all," Kohli’s former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) teammate told Dainik Bhaskar.
De Villiers also backed the former Indian captain for choosing family over national duty.
“Virat has every right to take a break during national duty. Family comes first and cricket second... He (Kohli) is out due to family emergency. Nobody knows where they are at the moment. All the fans of Virat in the world should wish him the best. Whatever be the reason for his break, hopefully he will return to the team strongly,” the 39-year-old added.
