During the run-chase, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma struck a couple of spectacular sixes off the English seamers, giving India and himself an incredible start to the second ODI in Cuttack. With his astonishing hitting in the powerplay, Rohit gave India a head start after England scored a respectable 304 runs. Rohit struck a massive six off Gus Atkinson over the mid-wicket and then smacked another maximum off Saqib Mahmood's full-length ball over the extra cover fence. Rohit smashed another six on Mahmood in the fifth over and with it, he surpassed Rahul Dravid in an elite list.
Rohit reaches historic milestone
The Indian skipper has now become the top 10 ODI highest run scorers of all time. He surpasses Rahul Dravid to enter the list. He needed 22 runs to get over Dravid in the 50-over format and he did that after smashing the third six of his innings. He showed glimpses of Rohit Sharma everyone was admiring during the ODI World Cup 2023 and T20 World Cup 2024.
Apart from Rohit, Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli and Sourav Ganguly are the other Indians in this list. Where Sachin sits at the top with 18426 runs, Virat is at the number three spot with 13906 runs. Rohit who has been out of touch for quite some time was at the receiving end of criticism. However, he has now silenced all his critics with this performance.
At the time of writing, Rohit Sharma is batting at 29 runs off 18 balls including a four and three sixes. However, the game was halted due to some problems with floodlights that had turned off. The players have walked off the field and will return once this issue is solved. Currently, India is at 48/0 in 6.1 overs.
England got all for 304
England dominated the powerplay by scoring 76/0 after 10 overs. However, India managed to make a comeback by taking a couple of wickets. The visitors had posted 186/3 in 33 overs. However, after Joe Root and Buttler got out, England who was eyeing something around 330 got restricted to just 304 runs.
However, as for India, Ravindra Jadeja once again picked three wickets. Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami, Hardik Pandya, Varun Chakravarthy, and Harshit Rana got one each. India are leading the series 1-0 and a win here would ensure a series win for them.
