Matthew Potts and Gus Atkinson's three-wicket hauls helped England to make a comeback on Day 1 of the ongoing third Test match against New Zealand in Hamilton. After being asked to bat, New Zealand were cruising as openers Tom Latham and Will Young added 105 runs for the second wicket. It was Gus Atkinson who got the first breakthrough for visitors by picking Will Young's wicket.
Matthew Potts justified his inclusion ahead of Chris Woakes with 3-75. Gus Atkinson took three of his own and went past 50 wickets in his 11th Test.
Blackcaps skipper, Latham made 63, Kane Williamson 44 and Young 42 in a New Zealand batting display again hampered by soft dismissals. At one point in time, New Zealand lost five wickets for just 70 runs.
Despite getting a good start, New Zealand managed to score 315 runs losing nine wickets by the end of day 1 of the ongoing clash. William ORourke, and Mitchell Santner are currently on the crease where Santner is playing on fifty and ORourke is yet to off the mark.
England have already won the series are now on the verge of completing a 3-0 series clean sweep by their impressive bowling on Day 1 of the third Test match. If they manage to do so they will become the only visiting side to take a 3-0 clean sweep in this country.
