The England cricket team has announced the inclusion of Jos Buttler in their squad for the upcoming white-ball tour of the West Indies, which begins on October 31. Buttler, who has been sidelined due to calf issues, has recovered and received clearance from the physio.
Given that the main players will be engaged in a three-match Test series against Pakistan, England has selected a second-string squad for the West Indies tour. Buttler, who missed the Australia series due to his injury, will lead this inexperienced team as England prepares for the Champions Trophy with ODI matches against the West Indies.
Yorkshire leg-spinner Jafer Chohan has earned his maiden international call-up, joining Dan Mousley and John Turner as the other two debutants in the squad.
Initially, a 14-member squad was selected for the West Indies tour. However, two players from the Pakistan Test squad will also join the white-ball team once the third Test against Pakistan commences on October 24.
Who is Jafer Chohan?
Jafer was born in Middlesex, England, but his family has origins in Pakistan. has received his first England call-up. In 2022, Chohan was playing club cricket in Loughborough, having previously failed to secure a contract with his childhood county, Middlesex. However, a breakthrough came when his performance in a net bowling session for England's T20 squad caught the attention of Joe Root. This led to his introduction to the SACA (Sports Aid) program and ultimately a contract with Yorkshire.
In 2023, Chohan's impressive performances in the T20 Blast earned him a wildcard selection by Southern Brave for The Hundred.
