Glenn Maxwell hit the second-fastest double century in ODI cricket.

It was a one-man show from the ‘Big Show’ of cricket, Glenn Maxwell at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai that crushed the Afghan challenge. Maxwell played the greatest knock in a World Cup run chase, especially when the team had suffered a batting collapse of epic proportions. He battled cramps, the typically hot and humid Mumbai weather to guide Australia to their highest successful run chase in World Cup history.

Maxwell broke several records with his unbeaten 201 which was laced with as many as 21 fours and 10 sixes. Here’s the full list of records he broke while batting on one leg for the second half of his knock.

1) Maxwell became the first batter to score a double century in an ODI run chase. The previous best belonged to Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman who scored 193 against South Africa in Johannesburg in 2021.

2) Maxwell broke the record for highest score in a run chase in World Cups. Former England captain Andrew Strauss had scored 158 against India in a tied match in the 2011 edition of the event.

3) Maxwell became the first Australian batter to score a double century in ODIs. The previous highest score by an Australian batter in ODIs by 185 not out by Shane Watson against Bangladesh in 2011.

4) Maxwell broke his teammate David Warner’s record for highest individual score for Australia in World Cups. Warner had scored 178 against Afghanistan in the 2015 edition of the World Cup.

5) Maxwell also broke former Indian skipper Kapil Dev's record of highest individual score by a no.6 batter in ODIs. Kapil had scored an unbeaten 175 against Zimbabwe in the 1983 edition of the World Cup.

6) Maxwell shared a 202-run partnership for the eighth wicket with skipper Pat Cummins. This is the highest partnership for the eighth wicket by far. The previous record belonged to South Africa's Justin Kemp and Andrew Hall who shared an unbeaten 138-run partnership against India in Cape Town in 2006.

However, there was one record that he missed breaking by a whisker. Maxwell finished the run chase with a six and reached his double century. He took 128 deliveries to reach the milestone. India’s wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan holds the record for the fastest double century in ODIs from 126 balls which came against Bangladesh in 2022.
