Bangladesh's star batter, Litton Das, who had to return home due to a family emergency during the 2023 World Cup, is set to rejoin the national squad ahead of their upcoming matches. The 29-year-old cricketer will join the team for training on Friday, November 3.

The media and communications manager of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Rabeed Imam, confirmed Litton's return to the squad. It is believed that Litton and his wife, Debosri Biswas Sonchita, are expecting their first child, which led to his temporary departure from the World Cup.

"Due to his family emergency, Liton took a leave and will join the team ahead of the team's training session scheduled on November 3 in Delhi," Rabeed was quoted as saying to The Daily Star.

With Litton's scheduled return on Friday, he is likely to feature in Bangladesh's remaining league match against Sri Lanka, which is scheduled for Monday, November 6, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

In the seven matches that Litton has played in the World Cup, he has scored 225 runs at an average of 32.14 and a strike rate of 78.39. He has recorded two half-centuries and a top score of 76 against England at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala.

Bangladesh currently finds themselves in the ninth position in the World Cup 2023 points table and was the first team to be officially eliminated from the tournament. However, they still have an opportunity to qualify for the Champions Trophy in 2025 if they manage to win their next two matches against Sri Lanka and Australia.

Despite starting their campaign with a six-wicket victory over Afghanistan, Bangladesh has faced a challenging streak of six consecutive losses. Apart from Litton and Mahmudullah Riyad, the rest of the batting lineup has struggled to put up competitive performances. The team will be looking for a turnaround in their remaining fixtures to salvage their campaign in the World Cup.
