Team India veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has opened up about not being in the plans for a selection in the ODI World Cup squad, a tournament that is scheduled to begin on October 5. Ashwin came up with a candid reply when quizzed about having any regrets of not being on the radar of selectors of the quadrennial competition. The 36-year-old is currently in a 'very good space' and has made peace with the fact that he cannot dictate the selection process.
"I don't think like that, because the selection of the team is not my job. I had decided long back that I would not think about stuff that is not in my hand. I am honestly in a very good space in terms of life and my cricket and I try to keep negativity away from my thought process," Ashwin told The Times of India.
Ashwin was part of the Indian squad in the 2011 World Cup that went on to win the glittering trophy under MS Dhoni's leadership.
Despite not being in the mix for the tournament, Ashwin said that he is hoping to see India win the World Cup once again. So far in his career, the veteran spinner has played in two 50-over World Cups. After winning the trophy in 2011, Ashwin was also part of the Indian squad for the 2015 World Cup that was staged in Australia.
Even though Ashwin might not be in the scheme of things for selection in India's 2023 ODI World Cup squad, the Rajasthan Royals' spinner is dreaming of watching Team India lift the World Cup trophy once again.
"I live for the day and I have no unfinished business. But it's true that I would love to see India winning the World Cup again, even if I am not playing," said Ashwin.
Ashwin has played 113 ODIs for India so far, picking 151 wickets in the process. It was January 2022 that Ashwin last played an ODI match for the Men in Blue.
