He shared a crucial partnership with opener Shubman Gill. He reached his half-century off a free-hit delivery in the 17th over bowled by Dushan Hemantha. However, Kohli could not equal Tendulkar's record for most ODI centuries. He lost his wicket to Madushanka in the 32nd over. He scored 88 runs from 94 balls including 11 fours.
