Team India is slated to play a five-match T20I series against Australia after ODI World Cup 2023.

Amidst speculations surrounding Rahul Dravid's future as the head coach, the current head of the National Cricket Academy VVS Laxman is likely to be in charge of India's T20I series against Australia right after the conclusion of ODI World Cup. As Dravid's contract culminates after the ODI World Cup, it will interesting to see who will be his successor as Team India's coach.

Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) faces the decision of either extending an invitation for Dravid to reapply or welcoming new applicants for the esteemed position.

Legendary Dravid, now 51, has his future choices under the spotlight. Balancing the responsibilities of the national team, which demands relentless travel and comes with incessant pressure, against other prospects, remains a pivotal decision.

With past coaching stints in the IPL, for teams like Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals, the speculations are rife that Dravid might return to the T20 league.

However, a crucial factor to consider is the physical toll of the World Cup campaign.

"VVS Laxman has always been in charge when Rahul has taken a break and the same thing is likely to continue for the series just after the World Cup," a BCCI source privy to the development said as reported by PTI.

It's speculated that except for Suryakumar Yadav, the entire squad might embrace a well-deserved respite after traversing over 10,000 kms during the World Cup.

Should BCCI open the floor for new applications, Laxman emerges as the front runner for the coveted job. His volume of experience and intricate knowledge of the NCA system primes him for the role.

Also, Team India's T20I squad against Australia might undergo a rotation policy, paving path for players who recently participated in the T20I series spanning West Indies, Ireland, and the Asian Games. Veteran players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Jasprit Bumrah may be given a break, allowing them to rejuvenate for an important series against South Africa where Men in Blue India will play three T20Is, two Tests and as three ODIs.

Meanwhile, India's the five-match T20I series against Australia is slated to kick start in Visakhapatnam on November 23.
