India have won two out of three ODIs in Ahmedabad.

India beat Australia in Ahmedabad in their previous clash at the venue.

On November 19, 2023, Narendra Modi Stadium will host its biggest match in the venue’s history. Renovated and rebranded only a few years ago, Narendra Modi Stadium will be jampacked as India take on Australia in the ODI World Cup 2023. India had beaten Australia in the World Cup 2011 quarter-final in Motera but there are five other massive records that have been achieved by India at the venue.

Gavaskar becomes the leading run-scorer

In 1983, Sunil Gavaskar became the leading run-scorer in Tests by surpassing England’s Geoff Boycott with a 90-run knock against West Indies. The English player had 8,114 runs to his name. This was the first big milestone achieved at the venue.

First to 10,000 runs

India’s prolific batter Gavaskar became the first man to score 10,000 runs in Test cricket in Ahmedabad. He did it in the clash against Pakistan.

Kapil becomes the leading wicket-taker

Kapil Dev who led India to their maiden World Cup title in 1983, the all-rounder achieved a colossal record. In 1994, Kapil became the leading wicket-taker by dismissing Sri Lankan batter Hasan Tillakaratne. He broke the record of New Zealand pacer Richard Hadlee who had 431 wickets to his name. Kapil took a total of 434 wickets before hanging his boots.

Tendulkar creates a record for ages

In the 2011 World Cup’s quarter-final clash against the Ricky Ponting-led Australia, Sachin Tendulkar scored a half-century in the run chase. With a single against Brett Lee, Tendulkar became the first batter to complete 18,000 runs in ODI cricket. Till now, no batter has come close to Tendulkar’s record.

Ashwin’s quadruple-century

India’s right-arm off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin completed 400 Test wickets in Ahmedabad. He is the only one on the list to achieve a major feat after the renovation of the stadium which has a capacity of one lakh thirty thousand spectators. England’s Jofra Archer became his 400th Test victim. Ashwin is now nearing 500 Test wickets. He is 11 wickets away from the major feat.

Overall, India and Australia have gone up against each other in Ahmedabad three times. India have emerged victoriously in two of these encounters.
