The rain interrupted another game at Arnos Vale Ground, Kingstown, St Vincent. As soon as Afghanistan’s innings ended, the covers came on as it was a heavy downpour in Vincent. Overs are expected to be lost in Bangladesh’s run chase. It may work slightly in favour of Afghanistan as the required run rate will increase if overs are lost.
What happens in case of washout?
However, if rain or wet outfield does not allow any further play in the last Super 8 clash of the tournament, Afghanistan will advance to the semifinal with three points against their name, one more than Mitchell Marsh’s Australia.
Bangladesh's equation to reach semifinal
Meanwhile, if no overs are lost, Bangladesh need to chase down the target in 12.1 overs to qualify for semifinals on the basis of net run rate and knock out Australia and Afghanistan. They can take the game to 12.4 overs as well and hit a maximum once the scores are tied to book their spot in the semifinal against South Africa. However, if overs are lost, the equation will be revised.
Afghanistan post a under-par total
Earlier, Afghanistan skipper Rashid Khan won the toss and opted to bat first. Openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran could not dominate in the powerplay overs as they had 27 runs on the board. At the halfway stage, they got the score to 58. Just when they were starting to accelerate, Rishad Hossain broke the partnership. Zadran scored 18 runs from 29 balls. Gurbaz continued to struggle. A boundary was scored after 39 balls in the 14th over. He survived a run out scare as well.
Azmatullah Omarzai departed for a 12-ball 10 as he was caught behind. In the next over, leggie Hossain struck again to dismiss Gurbaz and Gulbadin Naib. The opener scored 43 runs from 55 balls. Taskin Ahmed in his final over got rid of Mohammad Nabi. In the end, Rashid's 10-ball 19 cameo featuring three sixes took Afghanistan's score to 115/5.
