The Hurricane Beryl has caused destruction on the Caribbean islands. After India won the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy in Barbados, they have not been able to fly back home as the airport has been closed due to extreme weather conditions. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah arranged a special chartered plane for the team which is set to fly from Barbados on July 3 (Wednesday) as per IST. Along with the team, support staff and BCCI officials, India media have been stranded in Barbados as well. However, Shah came to their rescue as they media will travel with the team as well.
“Special thanks to @JayShah for taking the initiative and ‘rescuing’ stranded Indian media in Barbados. As a gesture, the 20-odd media contingent have been offered to fly out with the Indian team on the special chartered flight from Barbados to Delhi!” Aajtak’s managing editor Vikrant Gupta wrote on X.
“The special flight will take off In a few hours and land Delhi around 4-5 Thursday morning”
After reaching Delhi early on Thursday morning, Rohit Sharma-led side is likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the much-awaited World Cup trophy.
Feeling of winning T20 World Cup hasn’t sunk in for Rohit
Meanwhile, Rohit is still trying to digest the fact that India ended their ICC trophy drought.
"Yeah, the feeling is surreal. I would still say it hasn't sunk in totally. It's been a great moment right from when the game got over till now. It feels like a dream we still feel that it hasn't happened. Although it has happened but it feels like it hasn't happened. That's the emotion, that's the meaning that you have," Rohit expressed his feelings in a video posted by BCCI.
Rohit also revealed why he tasted the pitch at Kensington Oval, Barbados after the team created history. Rohit’s celebration was similar to what Tennis legend Novak Djokovic does after winning the Wimbledon.
"Nothing was scripted. I was feeling the moment. When I went to the pitch because that pitch gave us this (WC trophy). We played on that particular pitch and we won the game. That particular ground as well, I will remember that ground forever in my life and that pitch as well. I wanted to have a piece of that pitch with me. Those moments are very very special. The place where all our dreams came true, I wanted something of it. So, that was the feeling behind it," said the 36-year-old.
