Former India cricketer suggests Rohit Sharma to play at number four

Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer said that Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav should play at number three and four in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 which is scheduled to start from June 2 in the USA and West Indies. The 46-year-old explained that the Indian captain plays spin really well and that would resolve the team's worry about facing spin at the marquee event.

Jaffer took his tweet to suggest that Yashasvi Jaiswal should open with Virat Kohli. Here is what he posted on 'X'.

“Kohli & Jaiswal should open in the World Cup imo. Rohit & SKY should bat 3&4 depending on the start we get. Rohit plays spin really well so batting at 4 shouldn't be a concern” wrote Jaffer.

Jaiswal has played 17 T20Is where he scored 502 runs with a highest score of 100. The left-handed batter has an average of 33.46 in the shortest format of the game. On the other hand, Kohli has played 16 international matches as an opener where he scored 566 runs with an average of 40.42.

Team India will play their T20 World Cup 2024 opener clash against Ireland on June 5 against Ireland at the newly constructed Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. After that team India will face Pakistan on June 9 at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in East Meadow, New York.

Before the World Cup, Rohit Sharma & Co. will play their only warmup match against Bangladesh. Indian squad apart from Kohli has already reached the USA for the practice match. He is likely to miss that match because he reportedly asked for a break to spend time with his family after finishing IPL duties.
