Saad Bin Zafar-led Canada are set to face Rohit Sharma's India in the dead rubber Group A clash of T20 World Cup 2024. India have cemented their place in the Super 8 stage with three consecutive wins on tricky New York track whereas Canada are out of the race with just one win from three games. However, this will be Canada's big chance to go up against India but rain may spoilsport at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium, Lauderhill in Florida on June 15.
Unfavourable weather in Florida
The Florida weather forecast does not look promising. The match between USA and Ireland at the same venue on June 14 was abandoned due to rain without a ball being bowled. As USA and Ireland shared one point each, the co-hosts progressed to the Super 8 stage, knocking out Babar Azam’s Pakistan.
On June 15, rain is expected to play spoilsport again. On the eve of the game, India's practice session at the training facility in Florida was cancelled. As per accuweather.com, there is 88 per cent of precipitation. The cloud cover is expected to remain throughout the rain. The forecast also says there are high chances of thunderstorms and a couple of showers on Saturday. A maiden T20I contest between India and Canada looks highly unlikely.
Even if there is a chance of play, it will be a big task for the groundsmen to deal with the large wet patches in the outfield. The Indian team may be reluctant to play if the ground conditions are injury prone. They would not want to see a player from the winning combination getting injured before the Super 8 stage. India are set to face an in-form Afghanistan in their first Group 1 match at Kensington Oval, Barbados.
