The T20 World Cup 2024 is just around the corner. India will aim to bring back the trophy after 17 years. India’s all-format skipper Rohit Sharma lead the side in the Americas. Interestingly, Rohit is the only one player in the Indian squad who was a part of the MS Dhoni’s T20 World Cup 2007-winning side.
How Rohit fared in T20 World Cup 2007
Interestingly, Rohit made his T20I debut in the T20 World Cup 2007 clash against England when Yuvraj Singh smashed Stuart Broad for six sixes in an over and reached his half-century form just 12 balls. But Rohit got his chance to bat at no.5 in Yuvraj's absence against South Africa. In his debut T20I innings, he rescued India from 3/33 in the powerplay overs and scored 50 runs from 40 balls. India beat the hosts by 37 runs and Rohit was adjudged the ‘Player of the match’.
Rohit played a total of four games in the T20 World Cup 2007 and remained unbeaten. In the semifinal against Australia, he scored eight runs from five balls. In the final against Pakistan, Rohit played a crucial cameo of 16-ball 30. His knock helped India cross the 150-run mark and beat Pakistan by five runs.
Rohit’s T20 World Cup batting numbers
Till now, Rohit has played a total of 39 games in T20 World Cup games over the years. He has scored 963 runs from 39 games at an average of 34.39 including nine half-centuries. His strike rate in the marquee event's history is 127.88. The opener is also the fourth-highest run-scorer in T20 World Cups. He needs three more runs to surpass former West Indies opener Chris Gayle. Also, he needs 54 more runs to go past former Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene. He is likely to become the third batter to score 1,000 or more runs in T20 World Cups.

His only half-century in the season came against the Netherlands in a group stage game. He has led India in six games at the marquee event and emerged victoriously on four occasions. Apart from the semifinal defeat, the other loss in the tournament came against South Africa.
