The USA cricket board is in turmoil after the recent sacking of CEO Dr. Noor Murad. The United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) is unhappy with the USA cricket board's current straight of affairs. The Olympic body has been left frustrated with the interference of board directors in daily affairs.
As per a report by Cricbuzz, USPOC may look beyond USA cricket in the future. Last month, the International Cricket Council (ICC) had issued a warning to USA Cricket to get their affairs sorted. There were calls to suspend USA cricket but the decision was put on hold as it is one of the two hosts for the upcoming ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024.
ICC recommended CEO sacked
Recently, Dr. Murad, who the ICC recommended for the CEO position was terminated in less than six months of his joining. The apex cricket board wanted him reinstated, but USA Cricket decided otherwise.
During his tenure, Dr Murad was not given the freedom to appoint a director of domestic cricket, a finance manager, and people for several other positions. His demands were not met. Moreover, the USA cricket board forced him to appoint people they recommended or disregarded the idea altogether if he refused.
Dr Murad's other steps for the betterment of cricket in the country were met with similar responses. he wanted to create a high performance structure for the national team ahead of the World Cup. In addition, he wanted the team to prepare for the mega event with a National T20 Cup followed by a strength and conditioning camp and bilateral series against high-ranked teams. In addition, he wanted restructuring of umpiring and coaching structures to bring it up to international standards.
Further, the issue escalated when development officer Jamie Paul Lloyd, women's coordinator Julie Abbot, and strength and conditioning coach Burt Cockley were terminated a couple of months ahead of the T20 extravaganza.
USA’s World Cup group fixtures
USA will begin their T20 World Cup campaign against Canada at Grand Prairie Stadium, Dallas on June 1. They have been placed in Group A, the same as India, Pakistan and Ireland. USA will face Pakistan in Dallas on June 6 and Rohit Sharma's India in New York on June 12.
