'He will be India's next captain and there will be some retirement': Sunil Gavaskar's bold statement after India's T20 WC ouster

The resilient England hammered India by 10 wickets in T20 World Cup's semifinal clash on Thursday which paved their way to the summit clash where they will meet Pakistan on November 13.

India's lacklustre batting, ineffective bowling and poor fielding cost them one more ICC trophy. England seemed to have saved their best for the grand stage as they reduced the semifinal to a lop-sided affair, courtesy a splendid bowling effort which they complemented with some breathtaking stroke-making. It was Hardik Pandya (68 off 33 balls), whose fearless hitting took India to 168 for six but it was just about a par-score at the Adelaide Oval.

England captain Buttler (80 not out) set the tone with three boundaries off Bhuvneshwar Kumar's opening over but it was Hales (86 not out off) who butchered the Indian attack into submission.

Meanwhile, the legendary Sunil Gavaskar expects few senior players to announce their retirements with the change of captaincy in the future following India's humiliating loss at the the Adelaide Oval.

Gavaskar also feels all-rounder Hardik Pandya will take over the reins of captaincy once Rohit Sharma steps down.

"Having won the Indian Premier League on his first assignment as the captain, they would have marked Hardik Pandya out as the next captain," the former India captain said on Star Sports.

"Hardik Pandya will definitely take over the team in the future and there will be some retirements, you never know. Players will be giving it a lot of thought.

"There are several players in their mid-30s who will be reconsidering their position in the Indian T20I team," he further added.

While Virat Kohli has been the highest scorer in this World Cup, it has been a disappointing outing for other senior players such as skipper Rohit Sharma, Ravichandran Ashwin and Dinesh karthik, who are in their mid 30s.

India's next assignment will be the limited over tour of New Zealand where they will play three T20Is, and as many ODIs, starting November 18.
