Mohammed Shami has a knack of taking wickets in clusters. Against Scotland, Shami turned out to be the perfect death bowler for India rushing through the Scotland lower order. Bowling his third in the 17th over, Shami bowled back-to-back yorkers which Scotland batters were no match for. The bat did not come down in time and Shami’s yorkers hit the stumps twice while one hit the pads.
India got three wickets off three consecutive deliveries in the 17th over but Shami did not get a hat-trick. There was a huge shout for leg before wicket against Safyan Sharif but the umpire shook his head. Amidst the loud appeal, Sharif tried to sneak a single unaware of Ishan Kishan. The substitute fielder picked up the ball and caught Sharif napping as he rushed towards the stumps to take off the bails.
The rest of the two wickets of Shami in the 17th over came off pin-point yorkers. The first wicket was of Scotland middle-order batter Callum MacLeod while tailender Alasdair Evans got out for a golden duck. Evans looked clueless as he walked back to the dressing room. The three quick wickets prevented Scotland from getting past the 100-run mark. In the next over, Jasprit Bumrah got the last wicket to wrap up the innings with 14 more balls still left.
Earlier Shami bowled the last over of the powerplay overs which turned out to be a wicket-maiden. The 31-year-old got rid of a dangerous George Munsey. The left-handed opener was caught at mid-on trying to hit the slower delivery out of the park. Munsey was batting well having scored 24 runs off just 19 deliveries.
Shami’s second over was a bit expensive as he leaked a four and a six against a rampant Michael Leaks. The fast bowler conceded 15 runs his three overs and played a major role in bundling Scotland out for 85.
