Bangladesh’s young pacer Shoriful Islam wants to take Indian skipper Virat Kohli’s wicket in the upcoming T20 World Cup in United Arab Emirates (UAE) if the two teams meet.
Bangladesh will have to compete in qualifiers in order to advance to the next stage (super 12s). They are in Group B with Scotland, Papua New Guinea, and Oman and will face Scotland in their first World Cup match on the October 17. Moreover, if they top their qualifier group (Group B), they will be drafted into Super 12s Group 2 alongside India, Pakistan, New Zealand, and the runner-up from Group A.
In light of their chances in the qualifiers and the likelihood of facing India, if his team gets the opportunity to play India, Islam stated that he will try to catch the big fish (Virat Kohli).
“If I play against India, I will definitely try to take the wicket of Virat Kohli. I played in the U-19 World Cup. I had a different feeling before taking part in it. I’m feeling the same before the big event,” Shoriful told BDCrictime.
Bangladesh contingent has already arrived in the UAE, and after only one day of quarantine, they will begin their practice sessions and preparations for the mega event. They do not need to go through the ICC-mandated 6-day quarantine because they are already coming from a bio-bubble, according to a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) medical source.
The Asian Tigers will play two warm-up matches against Ireland and Sri Lanka on October 12 and 14 respectively before beginning their World Cup campaign. They are already coming with a bulk of the confidence after their resounding series victories at home against Australia (4-1) and New Zealand (3-2).
