Ahead of India-New Zealand Super 12 clash on Sunday, former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar has backed the Indian team to make a comeback. While speaking on Aajtak’s show, Gavaskar told India is a very good team and it is unfair to judge any team on the basis of just one loss.
"India will not become a bad team with just one loss, and they have the potential to win all of their remaining matches and qualify for the semi-finals." In reality, they (India) can reach the final and win the title, therefore a poor performance in a single match doesn't indicate the team isn't good," Gavaskar said during the interview.
When asked on the New Zealand team, the legendary batter believes that the Kiwis have always been a balanced side. He added that India must be on their toes while takin them on.
"New Zealand is always a balanced team; they have high-quality players in their camp, and they don't give up easily, so you have to be extra cautious when playing against them. However, when India last toured New Zealand, they won all five T20Is, including two matches that went to the super over; India still won those matches, so India's confidence should be strong," the 72-year-old remarked.
With two wins in two matches, the Kiwis have a superior T20 World Cup record versus India. In fact, the previous time these two sides faced in the T20 World Cup, New Zealand won by 47 runs while defending only 126 runs on the board.
We saw Pakistan breaking their 29-year-old World Cup drought against India on October 23. The Men in Blue would be tempted to break shackles against the Kiwis.
