Former Australian spinne, Shane Warne has lashed out at the Australian team after their loss against the arch-rivals England in the Super 12 stage of the T20 World Cup. England outclassed Australia on Saturday with their exceptional bowling and valiant batting.
Following Australia’s poor batting display, Warne showed disappointment for leaving out all-rounder Mitchell Marsh from the playing XI and sending Glenn Maxwell ahead of Marcus Stoinis.
The 52-year-old spin icon also believes Steve Smith is a world-class player but doesn’t deserve a place in Australia’s T20 side.
“Disappointing selection from Australia leaving Marsh out & Maxwell batting in the power play (he should always come in after power play). Stoinis should have gone in. Poor strategy & tactics from the Aussies. I love Smith but he shouldn’t be in the T/20 team. Marsh has to be !!,” Warne tweeted after Australia’s loss.
Australia posted an ordinary score of 125 after an early collapse, and in response, England chased down the total in just 11.4 overs with eight wickets in hand.
Considering England’s dominating performance against the Aussies, the veteran leg-spinner believes that the English side will top Group 1.
“I still believe the teams that will top each group & make it through will look like this, plus semi’s & final… 1.England 2. Australia 1.Pakistan 2. India Semi’s Eng V India Aust V Pak So final will be either India V Pak or Aust V England @SkyCricket @FoxCricket,” the leg-spinner further wrote.
England will play their next two matches against Sri Lanka and South Africa while Australia are scheduled to play against Bangladesh followed by West Indies.
