After their disappointing start to the T20 World Cup campaign, India fought back strongly with massive wins over Afghanistan and Scotland to boost their net run rate. India’s hopes for the last four are still alive provided Afghanistan beat New Zealand in their encounter on Sunday. In addition, India also need to win their last Super 12 game against Namibia. Ahead of the India-Namibia clash, former South African and current Namibian all-rounder, David Wiese gave a bold statement.
"Playing against India is always fantastic. The support they have is amazing. Their players are the best in the world. And those are the kind of players you want to be playing against. A couple of guys can step up and impress the right people and it could work for them somewhere else. Life is all about opportunities. We are the underdogs but you never know," Wiese told Hindustan Times.
Moreover, the 36-year old believes that his side has established themselves on the international stage with a few wins under their belt.
"We knew we would be up against it. But it’s also exciting. Our first result in Round 1 itself against Sri Lanka was a bit of a baptism of fire. But we have established ourselves as the best Associate team by beating Scotland which is a great achievement for Namibian cricket," Wiese added.
If Afghanistan manage to pull off an upset against New Zealand, the Namibia contest will become a virtual quarter-final for Virat Kohli-led India but if they fail to do so, it will merely be a dead rubber.
