India are on a tough road to redemption after two consecutive losses in T20 World Cup 2021. Now, they are dependent on results of other matches to make it to the semi-finals. During New Zealand’s clash against Scotland, the latter’s wicketkeeper Matthew Cross had a cheeky remark for his bowler Chris Greaves to motivate him against Kiwi batter Glenn Phillips.

The incident took place in the eighth over of the innings after Kiwis had lost their three wickets and were looking for a partnership in middle overs. Phillips was still new to the crease and yet to get off the mark.

However, the BlackCaps recovered from early blows and posted a total of 172/5 on the board. Opener Martin Guptill did the bulk of the scoring with his 93-run knock in challenging hot conditions of Dubai. Guptill shared a 105-run partnership for the fourth wicket to help Kiwis post a good score. Phillips too contributed with a 37-ball 33 but it was Guptill who did the big hitting with six fours and seven sixes against the Scottish bowlers.

In the run chase, Cross contributed with the bat as well to keep Scotland in hunt at halfway stage. Batting at no.3, Cross scored 27 runs from 29 deliveries including five boundaries. His innings came to an end as veteran Kiwi pacer Tim Southee knocked his stumps in the 11th over of the run chase.
