India won the toss and elected to bat first.

Team India started their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign with a warm-up match against Bangladesh on Saturday, June 1 in New York. However, India's superstar batter Virat Kohli sat out of the dress-rehearsal. Right after the toss, Indian captain Rohit Sharma explained that Kohli's late arrival in the United States on Friday was the reason for him sitting out the match. Fortunately, Sharma confirmed that all other players are available and participated in this crucial practice game before the World Cup officially begins. Despite arriving at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium to begin preparations for the warm-up match against Bangladesh, Virat Kohli didn't make it into India's playing eleven. However, Kohli wasn't entirely absent from the action. He was seen chatting with captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid before the toss, and even participated in some light training alongside his teammates.

What did the captains say?

Rohit Sharma, after winning the toss, said:

“We will bat. Not for any particular reason, conditions here look a bit challenging. Virat has just arrived yesterday, he’s going to miss out, the rest are all available and we’ll see how to use them. We arrived quite early, so the body clock has adjusted, we just have to see how well we can adjust to these conditions".

Meanwhile, Bangladesh captan Najmul Hossain Shanto, after losing the toss, said:

“We would have bowled, we’ll have to adjust the conditions and I want to know how the bowlers do. The boys have enjoyed themselves so far here, we are going to play with 13 players - Taskin and Mustafizur have been rested”.
