BIG BLOW to India ahead of Pakistan clash as star batter likely to be ruled out of Women's T20 WC due to injury

India have suffered a massive blow ahead of the their clash against Pakistan on February 12 as their vice-captain Smriti Mandhana is likely to be ruled out of Women's World Cup 2023 after sustaining finger injury.

 

It has been learnt that she picked up the injury during a warm up game against Australia. It’s unlikely that she will take any part in this Women’s T20 World Cup. 

 

Mandhana's unavailability is yet to be announced officially but it will be a huge jolt to India in the Women's T20 World Cup 2023 if it happens so.
India are placed in Group B alongside England, Ireland, West Indies, and Pakistan. The women's T20 World Cup 2023 kicks off with hosts South Africa taking on Sri Lanka on February 10.

 

Earlier, in the Women's T20 Tri series, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was sidelined with injury where she sustained a niggle to her shoulder in the final against South Africa which they eventually lost.

Meanwhile, a total of 23 matches will be played over 17 days in the 8th edition of the Women's T20 World Cup. The final is scheduled to happen on February 26, with the first match taking place on February 10 between hosts South Africa and Sri Lanka. Indian women's team will play their first match of the tournament against neighbouring country and bitter rivals Pakistan on February 12. Following that, the side will face off against West India, England and Ireland in their group-stage games.

A look at the Groups
All 10 participating teams have been divided into two groups. According to these divisions, each team will play four matches. The top two teams from both groups will qualify for the semi-finals.

Group-1:  Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh

Group-2: England, India, West Indies, Pakistan and Ireland
