Harmanpreet to keep on batting at number 3.

Indian women's cricket team's captain Harmanpreet Kaur will keep on batting at the number three spot in the ongoing edition of the ICC women’s T20 World Cup 2024, announced head coach Amol Muzumdar on Thursday, October 3. Notably, India will start their campaign against New Zealand on Friday, October 4 at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai.

Head coach on the number three spot

Ahead of the marquee event, the India skipper was seen batting at three in the warm-up games against West Indies and South Africa but did not get the desired outing as she posted scores of 1 (3) and 10 (13). When the media questioned Muzumdar about the team's third batter in the tournament, he instructed them to look up the player's name on the scorecard for the warm-up games.

Prior to the World Cup, the head coach of India disclosed that the team had chosen their number three during the training camp in Bengaluru.

"Absolutely. Not just the warm-up games, but we had already decided back in India, in the camps that happened before we set off for the World Cup. We had a lovely camp in Bangalore. We had decided there itself. These pre-World Cup matches absolutely stamped that for us. Is it a surprise? No. If you can guess, you can go through the scorecards and you will find it,” said Muzumdar in the pre-match press conference.

Yastika Bhatia had the third spot among Indian batters prior to the competition. Her ailment prior to the Bangladesh tour, however, compelled the team management to consider other choices. Despite Bhatia managing to recuperate from in time to reach the World Cup roster, Harmanpreet will keep on batting at number three in the mega event.
