The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly mulling to honor the Indian women’s cricket team with a historic prize money, should they clinch Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 title. If Captain Harmanpreet Kaur and her squad successfully lift the coveted trophy, they are anticipated to receive a substantial cash reward that parallels the amount granted to the men's team following their T20 World Cup triumph last year.
BCCI tipped to match men’s Rs 125 crore bonus if India lift Women’s World Cup 2025 trophy
According to reports from the Press Trust of India (PTI), high-ranking officials within the BCCI are currently discussing a financial gesture that would mirror the staggering ₹125 crore prize money awarded to the Rohit Sharma-led men's side after they won the 2024 T20 World Cup. While no formal announcement has been made, these discussions underscore the board's reported commitment to its policy of maintaining equal pay and recognition for both men's and women’s cricketers.
“The BCCI supports equal pay for men and women, and hence there is a lot of discussions that if our girls win the World Cup, the reward will not be anything less compared to the men’s global triumph. But it is not nice to announce before they win the Cup,” a BCCI source said, as quoted by PTI.
BCCI has a history of recognising the women's team's achievements. For instance, following their memorable journey to the 2017 ODI World Cup final, where they were narrowly defeated by England by nine runs, every player was awarded a cash prize of Rs 50 lakh. The then-head coach, Tushar Arothe, along with other support staff members, also received rewards for their contributions. Should the team go one step further this time and clinch the title, reports suggest that each player could receive up to ten times that previous amount, potentially marking the largest cash reward in the history of Indian women's cricket.
India chase maiden Women's ODI World Cup title
All eyes are now focused on the high-stakes final at the DY Patil Stadium on Sunday, November 2, where India will face South Africa. After dramatically stunning the reigning champions Australia in a thrilling semi-final, powered by Jemimah Rodrigues’ career-best innings, the "Women in Blue" enter the final full of confidence. As national excitement reaches a peak, Captain Harmanpreet Kaur and her team are poised to make history as they strive to bring home India’s first-ever Women’s World Cup title.
