The handshake snub continued in the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025. India captain Harmanpreet Kaur did not shake Pakistan captain Fatima Sana’s hand at the coin toss.
Fatima won the toss and opted to bowl first at R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. It seemed like that the Pakistan skipper already knew about the no-handshake policy as she moved aside at the coin toss.
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Devajit Saikia had said that the Indian team’s stand remains unchanged.
"The policy remains unchanged. There's no directive from the board asking players to shake hands. The focus is on the game," Saikia said.
The men’s team had done the same during the T20 Asia Cup 2025. Suryakumar Yadav chose not to shake Pakistan men’s team captain Salman Agha’s hand during the group stage clash. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) tried to create a fuss over it by demanding the removal of match referee Andy Pycroft as a scapegoat.

After the win, the India captain dedicated the win to the Pahalgam terror attack victims and the Indian Armed Forces. Later, India beat Pakistan in the Super Fours stage and in the final as well to win the T20 Asia Cup 2025.
