Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kasi Viswanathan on May 31 (Wednesday) confirmed that the franchise captain MS Dhoni will seek medical advice on his injured left knee. Dhoni, who powered through the pain and led CSK to its fifth Indian Premier League (IPL) title, might even undergo surgery but the decision will solely depend on Dhoni himself.

"Yes, it is true that Dhoni will be taking medical advice for his left knee injury and accordingly decide. If surgery is advised, it can only be ascertained after reports come out, it will be completely his call," PTI quoted Viswanathan as saying.

From being the second-worst team in IPL 2022 to becoming the second-best in 2023, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) returned to their vintage self in IPL 2023. Several heroes were behind the revival of the second most successful franchise in IPL history as they clinched a record-tying fifth IPL title. The biggest hero was their leader and captain, MS Dhoni. One of the greatest leaders of all time used the resources at his disposal in flawless fashion while his tactics and shrewd strategies made the Men in Yellow -  the champions.

Moving forward, all eyes will be on Dhoni and what he decides on his retirement decision. After the IPL final, the wicketkeeper-batter stated that he will try and return for one 'Last Dance' in 2024.

"Circumstantially, this is the best time to announce my retirement. But the amount of love I have received all over. The easy thing would be to walk away from here, but the harder thing would be working hard for nine months and try to play another IPL. It would be a gift from me, won't be easy on the body," said Dhoni after the IPL final.

When asked about the possibility that Dhoni will decide against playing next season and thus free up a purse of Rs 15 crore for the mini auction, the CEO said, "Frankly, we are not even thinking on those lines as we haven't reached that stage."

"It will be completely Dhoni's call. But I can tell you in CSK, we haven't entertained those thoughts," Viswanathan added.
