Ahead of World Test Championship (WTC) final, the main talking about India's playing XI is whether both spinners Ravinchandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja will play or skipper Rohit Sharma will bank on an extra spinner at Kennington Oval, London.
On the eve of much awaited WTC final, Rohit was asked the obvious question at the press conference about the playing eleven. The opener kept the cards close to his chest unlike Australian captain Pat Cummins.
"Pitch and conditions keep changing. Message for all the boys is that they should be ready. We will see tomorrow and will decide who will play," Rohit told the reporters.
The 36-year-old who led India in T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia said that he wants to win one to two ICC titles as a captain. He was among the few Indian players who turned up for the optional practice on June 6.
"Test cricket is the ultimate format, most challenging format and it will mean everything for us to win it," Rohit said. "I want to take this Indian team forward and win 1-2 ICC titles."
Earlier in the day, Cummins confirmed that Scott Boland will play over Michael Neser as replacement for an injured Josh Hazlewood.
"We're big on kind of everyone bowling slightly differently," Cummins told reporters.
"Scott is a seam bowler on a good length, but he just offers something slightly different to Joshy Hazlewood, and Starcy being a left hander is bit different.
"So I don't think there's ever a pecking order. You think about the three guys that you want to go out and play."
Ahead of the all-important final, Rohit also lauded his side that solidified their place in top two of the points table after beating Australia at home 2-1 in Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023.
"Overall, if you look at the consistent cricket that we played, we displayed good cricket all around," Rohit said.
"It's a very tough tournament. We've got to play consistent cricket throughout the couple of years to get here.
"You need all the departments to do well for you. And I thought our strength really has been all three departments."
