Former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh believes that both Suryakumar Yadav and Gautam Gambhir need to be credited for Abhishek Sharma's rapid rise in T20Is. Notably, 2025 has been a fantastic year for Abhishek as he has scored 705 runs in 15 innings so far. The left-hand batter is India's top-scorer in the shortest format so far in the year, scoring five fifties and a century. These stunning performances have seen him become a highly-important player for the Men in Blue in T20Is.
Yuvraj feels that both Suryakumar and Gambhir allow Abhishek to express himself and encourage him to play fearless cricket. The former all-rounder also recalled how Gary Kirsten used to provide him with freedom and told him to play his own game.
“I think the fearlessness also comes with support from the coach and the captain. When the coach and captain allow you to go and play your game fearlessly, it allows you to express yourself, and that’s where I come from as well. When Gary Kirsten was the coach, he would always tell me that if you go and play your game and if you play the way you do, you will put India in a winning position," Yuvraj told PTI.
“Hence the confidence that Gautam and Suryakumar have given him, if you go and play your game, you will put India in a winning position six out of ten times, and that is what he is doing," he added.
Abhishekk's superb form in T20Is
Abhishek recently had a terrific Asia Cup campaign where he finished as the tournament's top-scorer with 314 runs and played a key role in India's triumph. He went on to replicate that form in the five-match T20I series and played a brilliant knock of 68 in the second game. With the series level at 1-1 and two matches still to go, Abhishek will be looking to continue his blistering form and play another big knock or two.
Abhishek chasing another milestone
Abhishek is also quite close to reach the 1000-run mark in the shortest format. He currently has 961 runs under his name from 27 matches, including six fifties and two centuries. He has an explosive strike-rate of 192.20 and has already broken a ton of records during the year.
