India’s veteran opener Rohit Sharma has become the no.1 ODI batter on ICC rankings for the first time in his career that started on July 23, 2007. Rohit has become the oldest Indian player to achieve the feat at 38 years and 182 days.

Rohit was named 'Player of the series' despite India's defeat in the ODI series to Australia. After a single-digit score on comeback in Perth, he scored 73 in losing cause at Adelaide Oval. In the final ODI of the tour, he scored an unbeaten 121 in the run chase. He was named ‘Player of the match’ as well for his 33rd ODI ton.

Rohit dethroned Afghanistan opener Ibrahim Zadran who had a stellar run in the series against Bangladesh. He scored two 95s in the series. The former India ODI captain is at the top with 781 rating points, 17 more than Zadran. He will have a chance to extend his lead in the ODI series at home against South Africa starting later in next month.

As a result, India's new ODI captain Shubman Gill slipped to third spot with 745 points. The fourth spot is with Pakistan's Babar Azam. An in-form Daryl Mitchell moved up on the back of his knock against England in opening ODI. Mitchell is followed by Virat Kohli who slipped to no.6. Kohli followed up two ducks with an unbeaten half-century.

Kohli slips, Iyer gains one position

Kohli is followed by Sri Lanka's Charith Asalanka and Ireland's Harry Tector. India's ODI vice-captain who is currently hospitalised in Sydney due to lacerations to the spleen moved one place up. Iyer scored a half-century in Adelaide. West Indies captain Shai Hope slipped one place to 10th. Australia opener Travis Head slipped two positions to 13th after ordinary performances in the series against India.

Brook’s big jump

England captain Harry Brook has been rewarded for his record-breaking century amidst collapse, featuring 11 sixes in the ODI series opener against the Kiwis. He climbed up 23 places to take the 25th position. He became the first England captain to score an ODI century on England soil.
