Shreyas Iyer got injured in third ODI vs Ausatralia.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed that India ODI vice captain Shreyas Iyer has been discharged from the hospital in Sydney as their medical team, along with specialists in Sydney and India, are pleased with his recovery. Iyer was admitted to the hospital after getting an injury during the third ODI against Australia on October 25, 2025, at Sydney Cricket Stadium in Sydney.

The BCCI further explained that the Mumbai batter sustained a blunt injury to his abdomen while fielding during the third ODI against Australia on 25th October 2025, resulting in a laceration of his spleen with internal bleeding. When will Iyer come back to India?

In the same release, the BCCI mentioned that Shreyas will be staying in Sydney for follow-up consultations and will return to India once he is deemed fit to fly.

How did Iyer get injured?

Iyer, who was appointed Shubman Gill's deputy in ODIs, got injured while taking a catch. The incident happened on the fifth ball of the 34th over, bowled by Harshit Rana. He bowled a  short of length outside off delivery, and Carey throws his arms at it, probably tried to go over mid-off/extra cover, and ended up slicing it a long way up in the air. Shreyas turns around and runs back from the backward point, times his jumps perfectly and holds onto it even as the ball slips out a bit. He falls awkwardly to his left side and has injured himself.
