The consecutive floodlight malfunction happened during the 18th over of Australia's first innings when Indian pacer Harshit Rana was preparing to bowl. The lights went out, forcing a brief pause in play.
However, after a two-minute delay, the lights were restored. However, they malfunctioned again just a few deliveries later. Marnus Labuschagne and Nathan McSweeney were the Australian batters at the crease at the time of the second interruption.
This isn't the first instance of floodlight failures disrupting a pink-ball Test match. During India's inaugural pink-ball Duleep Trophy match in 2016, held in Greater Noida, a similar incident led to a lengthy one-hour interruption in play.
