Over the years pace maestro Jasprit Bumrah has proved himself as India biggest troubleshooter. Bumrah is doing the same in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-2025 as he been India's most consistent bowler in the ongoing Test series against Australia. He started the series with a five-wicket haul in Perth, followed by a three-wicket haul in the second innings of the same Test, leading India to a dominant 295-run victory in Perth. He continued his onslaught in the second Test, albeit for India's losing cause in Adelaide where he claimed four wickets.   

Jasprit Bumrah on verge of bagging big milestone

In the ongoing third Test in Brisbane, Bumrah has once again been the standout bowler, taking six wickets in Australia's first innings. With this performance, Bumrah is on the verge of a huge milestone. The superstar pacer is just nine wickets away from completing 200 Test wickets, and if go on to achieve this feat, he will become the fastest Indian pacer to reach this milestone.

Currently, Kapil Dev holds the record for being the fastest Indian pacer to reach 200 Test wickets, achieving this milestone in 50 matches. With just one more wicket needed, Bumrah, in his 43rd Test match, is poised to break Kapil Dev's record.

Among Indian spinners, R Ashwin holds the record for the fastest to 200 Test wickets, achieving this feat in 37 matches. Ravindra Jadeja and Harbhajan Singh follow, with 44 and 46 matches respectively.

Notably, Bumrah made his Test debut for India in January 2018 against South Africa, having already established himself as a force in white-ball cricket.

Recognising his leadership qualities, Bumrah was included in the Indian team's leadership group in 2022. He made his captaincy debut in a one-off Test against England and also led India in T20I matches in 2023. Recently, he captained India in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where India ended up winning thrashing Australia.

Australia put India on backfoot in 3rd Test

Talking about the ongoing Gabba Test, Australia, batting first, posted a massive total of 445 runs, with centuries from Travis Head (152) and Steve Smith (101), and a half-century from Alex Carey. Australian bowlers then tightened screw on Indian batters and disrupted visitors' top order, including Yashasvi Jaiswal (4), Shubman Gill (1), Virat Kohli (3), and Rishabh Pant (9) on Day 3. At the end of the third day's play, India were struggling at 51/4, with KL Rahul (33*) and Rohit Sharma (0) still intact on the crease.
