India and Australia are currently preparing for the fifth Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 which is scheduled to take place in Sydney Cricket Stadium in Sydney from January 3 to 7. The upcoming clash between Test rivals is going to be the first Test match of 2025 which is important for both teams to seal their spot for the World Test Championship (WTC) final.
Australia who are currently leading 2-1 after registering a win at MCG will look to win the fifth Test to confirm their berth for the WTC final and on the other hand, India will also look to win the match to keep their hopes alive. What is the Pink Test?
The Pink Test is a tradition in cricket that takes place every year during the first Test match of the year in Australia. This is for raising awareness and funds for the fight against breast cancer, in support of the McGrath Foundation, established by Australian cricket legend Glenn McGrath.
When it was started?
The Pink Test started in 2009 during the Australia vs South Africa Test match.
The reason behind the Pink Test?
This was started to honour Jane McGrath, Glenn McGrath's late wife, who tragically passed away in 2008 due to breast cancer. It's primary goal was to raise awareness about breast cancer and provide financial support for patients and survivors through the McGrath Foundation.
What will be different in the Pink Test?
The Sydney Cricket Stadium in Sydney will be turned pink including including stands, signage, and decorations, is covered in pink to symbolize the fight against breast cancer. Fans and attendees also join the cause by wearing pink. Australian players incorporate elements of pink in their uniforms, such as caps, jersey numbers, and names. There will be special events and activities during the match to encourage donations to the McGrath Foundation. Funds will be used to provide breast cancer nurses and support services to families in need. The third day of the Test is officially named Jane McGrath Day in memory of Glenn McGrath's wife. It serves as the pinnacle of the awareness campaign during the match.
