Star Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj and Australian batter Travis Head were involved in a heated spat on Day 2 of the second Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test which was played at the Adelaide Oval. This episode created lots of headlines and was one of the most talked about topics on the internet. The incident occurred after Siraj clean-bowled Head, who played a 140-run knock. However, soon things turned south as both stars were seen in a war of words.
Simon Katich on Siraj
Former Australian opener Simon Katich was displeased with the way Siraj behaved during that 'brain fade' moment. He added that there was no need for it and Head deserved a better finish as he played a stunning knock which was basically match-winning.
"It wasn't a great look. It's a shame that Siraj had a bit of a brain fade… there's no need for that in the game. He would regret that Siraj… it was all spur of the moment and when he got Mitchell Starc out not long after that he was pretty sheepish. It all happens in a split second and it's hard to control emotions sometimes when you're upset with what's just unfolded," said Katich while speaking on SEN 1170 Breakfast.
"His innings didn’t deserve to finish that way. I think Travis Head reacted to the gesture and you can’t blame him for that, he was pretty upset with what was being directed his way. As soon as Travis Head got out, he basically played a match-winning knock, it should've been the opposite. He should've gone over to him and pat him on the back and said ‘well played’. Hopefully, it doesn't ignite the series but I dare say given the history of India v Australia in recent times… it’s going to get heated in the next few tests because the series is on the line," he added.
ICC to punish Siraj and Head
As per The Daily Telegraph, both Siraj and Head will be facing a disciplinary hearing despite both parties burying the hatchet as revealed by the Aussie batter. However, the duo will not be facing any sanctions from the match referee and there are no suspension threats on their heads but both parties are likely to be fined along with a demerit point
