Australia have released Beau Webster from their squad for Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-2025 in middle of the ongoing third Test against India at Gabba on December 14. Australia media have reported that the star Australian all-rounder has been released from the Australian Test squad and as he has to reach Perth for the Big Bash League opener.

Webster is in the Melbourne Stars squad to face Perth Scorchers December 15 in the BBL opener.

Pat Cummins (c), Scott Boland, Alex Carey (wk), Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Mitch Marsh, Nathan McSweeney, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc.

Webster has consistently impressed in domestic cricket over the past few seasons. His recent performances for Australia A against India A drew everyone's attention where he proved his all-round prowess with both bat and ball.

Webster amassed 145 runs in four innings, playing crucial roles in successful run chases. With the ball, he claimed seven wickets at an impressive average of 19.57, including six wickets at the MCG. In the last two years of first-class cricket, including his stint with Gloucestershire, Webster has maintained a strong average of 53.23 with the bat and 31.71 with the ball. Overall in first-class cricket, the 31-year-old cricketer has amassed 5297 runs and 148 wickets.

Meanwhile, talking about the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the third Test between India and Australia got underway on December 14 at Gabba. Day 1 was called off due to rain after India opted to field first against Australia. Day 1 witnessed just 13.2 overs of play in the morning session which left Australia at 28/0.
